Guests will begin at Cinco Rios Lodge on the Rio Simpson. Each of their six spacious rooms has two king beds with ensuite bathrooms, a seating area and a deck overlooking the river. Cinco Rios Lodge has a magnificent great room with comfortable couches, a beautiful rock fireplace and expansive windows overlooking the valley. There is a large family-style dining room and a bar room with revolving beers on tap.
Mid-week, anglers move 20 mins to Estancia del Zorro, a historic sheep and cattle ranch with a recently restored ranch house featuring 12 guest rooms. Each room has two king beds, private baths, and balconies with incredible views stretching across the ranch and spring creek. The lodge’s welcoming great room is the ideal place to enjoy cocktails and swap stories from the day.
Professional chef’s prepare delicious and regional fare including beef, lamb, chicken and fish raised onsite and caught from Chilean fjords. All produce including fresh morels and herbs from the property’s gardens complete a true farm to table experience. White and red wines are selected from Chile’s fined wineries and thoughtfully paired with each lunch and dinner.
Combining Cinco Rios Lodge and Estancia del Zorro allows anglers to fish a great variety of private and public trophy trout water of the renowned Coyhaique region. Brown Trout make the bulk of the catch and dry flies are the norm, especially big black beetle patterns. The Best of Patagonia ensures anglers will fish coveted trout waters, in two different Chilean landscapes, with some of the region’s most knowledgeable and loyal guides.
On the larger rivers like the Rio Simpson, streamers tend to be extremely productive on the cloudy days but otherwise, attractor patters from stones to hoppers to beetles will always turn heads. Anglers should bring a 5 and 6 wt rod and a variety of terrestrial patterns. Drive times to all waters can be 5-45 mins.
The Best of Patagonia program can be conveniently paired with fishing at Estancia Tecka Lodge, Natural Anglers and El Fario Lodge in Esquel.
