Experience premium Chile fly fishing and renowned Chile fishing guides with trusted outfitters, Fly Fishing Patagonia. After fly fishing in Chile for years, we found the best lodge and remote Chile trout fishing waters.

24" Rainbows on dry flies

While in Chile fishing, you will see breathtaking waterfalls, rainforests and hidden crystal clear trout rivers. Most guests discover Chile and Argentina in the same trip. We specialize in both Chile fly fishing and Argentina fly fishing, making a well rounded and simple Patagonia fly fishing experience

Chile is known for its natural resources and beauty. Chile itself recognized this in the 1920's when it implemented one of the finest national park systems in the world. Foreign visitors come to fly fish Chile, hike in the rainforest of the coastal lake district and mountain climb in the national parks. The country is about 4000 km long with the northern portions being arid and the southern to mid portions containing 2000-4000 year old rainforest. Chile contains roughly 10% of the world’s active volcanoes.

In the 16th century Spaniards arrived in Chile and found indigenous populations reaching in the millions. Today the majority of the indigenous people includes the Mapuche, Aymara, Atacmenos and the Rapa Nui and make up only 7% of Chile's 14 million inhabitants. Most Chileans have ancestors with indigenous and European blood.

Fishing Lodges

Chile Fly Fishing Lodge, the Posada Puelo

CHILE FLY FISHING LODGE- POSADA PUELO

Experience the pristine beauty of Chile Patagonia and fish different waters from the remote and easily accessible Posada Puelo.

The beautiful Posada Puelo is located in south central Chile, 2.5 hours southwest of Puerto Montt. The lodge over looks the north bank of the Puelo River, just 10 kms upriver from the Reloncavi estuary and 6 km below Lake Tagua Tagua. Here we find stunning wilderness and complete solitude with no roads or lights, just the southern cross, the Andes and the sounds of the forests and river.

From this scenic vantage point on the fringe of towering hardwoods, guests have unsurpassed vistas of the vibrant Puelo River against the backdrop of the virgin rainforest giving way to snow capped peaks of the Andes.

Hot tub heated by wood fire

This facility was built on the rivers bank, with fine local wood creating a comfortable and informal atmosphere. The lodge complex composes of six cabins seated with four of the six to house anglers on a double occupancy basis.  These guest cabins have a bedroom and private bath, a wood burning stove, hot water and electricity from a 220 volt generator. The kitchen, dining room and lounge are located in the larger cabin.

This mountain retreat is equipped with particular comforts not found in most Chile Fly Fishing lodges. The most popular amenity is the outdoor hot tub that over looks the river. After a long day of Chile trout fishing, anglers are anxious to enjoy the hot tub with Pisco Sour in hand.

The refined Chilean cuisine includes barbequed local meals, fresh fish, a variety of salads, unforgettable deserts and fine wines; all which are greatly applauded by guests at Posada Puelo.

Waters we Fish

Guide Nano & happy angler -Feb, 2006

Chile Fly Fishing on the Puelo River

There are three main attractions to these Chile fly fishing waters at the Posada Puelo . Perhaps the greates asset are the large, football shaped rainbow trout. The combined nutrients from the estuary & tributaries offer an enormous amount of biomas. These trout are so numerous that even sea loins come up from the estuary to feed on them (So don’t be alarmed when you see a 6 foot shadow swim under the boat)! Other species are brown trout, brook trout, Atlantic Salmon and at certain times of the year coho and kings salmon are plentiful.

Fly fishing Chile in style

The second pull for anglers is the privacy and accessibility they get from fly fishing the Puelo River. We use Jet boats and McKenzie drift boats to navigate every inch of this pristine, emerald colored river. After a few days on the Chile trout fishing on the Puelo River, anglers are invited to journey up river to the Tagua Tagua Lake and the upper Manso River for even more exclusive fishing waters which very rarely see anglers. However, right in front of the lodge we have experienced great Chile trout fishing as well.

Another Rainbow fell to a dry fly -Feb, 2006

Many guests tell us that it was the excellent dry fly fishing that made their Chile fishing experience unforgettable. Yes, even in northern Chile, where the wooly bugger is king, you can fish a dry fly; and nowhere else in this region is better Chile trout fishing than the Puelo River. Sinking lines and streamers are still deadly combinations, however, the Puelo give anglers the chance to pick up the five weight and enjoy great Chile trout fishing with a dry fly.

Whether you fish dry or wet, you will expereince incredible Chile trout fishing from floating and wading the freestone Puelo River; enjoying the best of Chile fishing for Rainbow and Brown Trout. -The Coho & the King Salmon are a just an added bonus!

Health Issues: There are no immunizations requirements for Chile. For the latest information on health and immunization requirements worldwide, visit the Center for Disease Control web-site at www.cdc.gov. Because you will be in a remote location in Chile, bring any required medications and basic first aid supplies. Although your guides will have epinephrine pins and are trained to use them, we advise carrying a personal epi pin if you are allergic to any kind of insect sting.

Travel Insurance: Fly Fishing Patagonia offers specialized travel insurance and we highly recommends travel insurance. Please note that although fly fishing Chile is safe, unexpected events happen. Most people use travel insurance to cover delayed or canceled flights, lost luggage and medical emergencies. All medications you might want or require should be brought with you.
