TROUT FISHING: Argentina - Junin

Tipiliuke

TPK LivingFounded in 1909, Estancia Tipiliuke Lodge is a sophisticated fishing ranches and it is the epitome of fine country living in Patagonia.  This 48,000 acre Argentina fishing lodge is a working ranch located between San Martin and Junín de Los Andes and runs along 9 miles of the Chimehuín River.  Tipiliuke Lodge has been catering to serious anglers, red stag hunters and non-sporting guides alike for over 25 years.

Between the lodge and the main house, Tipiliuke can house a total of 18 guests accommodated in 9 private double rooms with private baths. The house is more private with fast access the Chimehuín River and the lodge is more suitable for socializing with a bar and spacious living room.  Wi Fi is also available in all facilities.

TPK BedroomThe 9 miles of Chimehuín that belong to Tipiliuke are some of the finest waters in Patagonia because of both its quantity and quality of trout and its dry fly friendly characteristics.  Four private miles of Quilquihue stream also belong to the ranch and are considered blue ribbon quality.  Additional activities include horseback riding, golf, hiking, spa services, visits to San Martin and stag hunting in March and April.  We book our stag hunts 2 years in advance.

The Chimehuín runs 34 miles, before it empties into the Collon Cura, however, some of the better fishing is found on the 9 private miles that run through Estancia Tipiliuke.  One of the Chimehuín finest tributaries is the Quilquihue River and anglers can access 4 miles of this smaller stream. Both the Chimehuín and the Quilquihue are known for their great dry fly fishing.  Nymphs and streamers are also popular to coax the large brown trout out from under submerged rocks or the willow lined bank.  In late 2005, Tipiliuke constructed a spring creek cutting through the ranch.  The waters at Tipiliuke can accommodate any trout angler’s preferred style of fishing.

ChimiThe “Chime” is one of the many famed rivers in Argentina and is considered the first river that gave northern Patagonia its renowned trout fishing reputation. Years before Joe Brooks’s arrival, legendary Argentine angler Bebe was pulling huge trout from the river. It has produced the largest landlocked brown trout in all of Patagonia, and still today anglers gather at the boca of the Huechulafquen Lake looking to hook into one of its prized brown trout that migrate from the lake to the river during the fall spawning run.
