TROUT FISHING: Chile - Puelo

Posada Puelo

Posada Puelo 1The beautiful Posada Puelo is located in south central Chile, 3 hours southwest of Puerto Montt, Chile.  This fishing lodge overlooks the north bank of the Puelo River, just 10 km upriver from the Reloncavi estuary and 6 km below Lake Tagua Tagua.  From this scenic vantage point, anglers have unsurpassed vistas of the vibrant Puelo River against the backdrop of virgin rainforest.  Towering hardwoods give way to snow capped peaks of the surrounding Andes.  Here we find stunning wilderness and complete solitude with no roads or lights, just the stars, mountains and the sounds of the flowing Puelo River.

This Chile fishing lodge is built with local wood creating a rustic but very comfortable atmosphere.  The lodge complex composes of six cabins seated 50 feet from the Puelo River.  Two of the cabins house anglers in double occupancy and 3 cabins house anglers in triple occupancy.  Each cabin has a private bath with hot showers, a wood burning stove, and electricity from a 220 volt generator.

The larger sixth cabin houses the kitchen, a dining room and a lounge area.  This mountain retreat is equipped with particular comforts not found in most Chile Fishing lodges such as internet and satellite TV.  The most popular amenity at the lodge is the outdoor hot tub that over looks the river.  After a long day, getting out of wet waders and into the hot tub with Pisco Sour in hand is something to relish and remember.

The Chilean cuisine includes barbequed local meals, fresh fish, a variety of salads, unforgettable deserts and fine Chilean wines; all which are greatly applauded by guests at Posada Puelo.

Posada Puelo 2The Posada Puelo is perfectly located to make fishing both Chile and Argentina easy.  There are no flights required and the ¾ day transfer over the Andes by van offers stunning views.

Non-Angling Activities
The most popular non-fishing activities at the Posada Puelo Lodge are hiking and horseback riding.  These hikes and rides range in difficulty and length, but most of them offer breathtaking vistas of Patagonia’s Lake District.  We will provide a local guide who will take guests to see remote waterfalls and lakes.  These trails cut through Chile’s dense rainforest which hold ancient Alerces and Coihue trees.  Ambitious hikers can walk all the way to the border of Argentina.  Non-anglers are also welcomed to see the river via jet boat.
