FISHING IN RIO PICO
Anglers who are well educated on fishing in Patagonia, Argentina
know about or perhaps have actually fished this area. Most people
fishing Argentina will never fish here either because of its remote
location, their guides don't want to make the trek or because traveling
anglers don't know to ask. If you are willing to go for a scenic
drive, deeper into Patagonia, your rewards will be great.
Although
there are a series of lakes in the area to fish, the main attraction
is Lago Tres or Lake #3, which is actually a lagoon having no inlet
or outlet. The rainbows average 6 pounds, however, brown and rainbow
trout up to 15 pounds are recorded every year.
In
the Pico River, brown trout have been caught up to 9 pounds and
rainbows up to 4 pounds. While fishing this small river, do not
be surprised to see Pacific Salmon resting from a long journey from
Chile. The winding Pico River has open gravel beaches, huge cut
banks and portions that are overgrown with willows and algae.
When we fish the Rio Pico area we stay in newly built lakeside cabins.
The accommodations are spacious and simple with modern conveniences
such as hot showers and a full bath. Most of the meals are cooked
out on the grill and fishing is the prime focus here. This is not
a destination for anglers needing amenities of a full service lodge,
however, is an excellent choice for the angler that wishes to catch
several large fish. We usually stay 2 or 3 days and move on to another
location.
