TROUT FISHING: Argentina - Junin

Non-Angling Activites

Lanin Park 1At Fly Fishing Patagonia we make sure our non-fishing guests have the same fulfilling experience as our anglers.  Most of our lodges offer horseback riding, biking and hiking, but we also offer some guided activities off the property with local experts.

Lanín National Park
The Lanín National Park is a major attraction and draws hikers and nature lovers from around the globe. The 840,000 acre park was created in 1937 and holds multiple rivers and 24 glacier lakes. The most dominant feature is the 12,300 foot Lanín Volcano which lies within Chile’s Villarica National Park as well.  Lanín National Park is of natural interest because of the different Andean forests such as the Roble Pellin groves, moist Valdivian forests with giant Coihue tree and the native and bizarre Araucaria or Monkey-Puzzle Trees growing in poor, volcanic soils. Our guests go on interpretive hikes lasting 1-4 hours that offer vast views of the Volcano and the parks lakes and forests.

Horseback Riding
Horseback riding in Patagonia is nothing like the trail rides offered at ranches in the US.  Your bilingual host at the estancia will take you off into the hills for an hour’s ride or on a multi-day pack trip.  You won’t see other riders, people or ranches, just the varied terrain of the Andes. Your experience is limited only by your skill level.

If your group is equally interested in horseback riding and fishing, we will tailor your trip for both the advanced riders and the advanced anglers.

Lanin Park 3Additional Activities
We also offer guided activities to the towns of Junin and San Martin. Junin offers more history with its ancient cemetery, churches and museums featuring the culture of the native Indian tribes.

The city of San Martin de los Andes is located 25 minutes south of Junin and within the Lanin National Park.  It is nestled on Lake Lácar and surrounded by the high mountains of Patagonia’s Lake District. It is considered the tourism capital of the Neuquen province with its picturesque views, numerous outdoor activities and sophisticated Swiss Alpine architecture. This charming mountain villa of less than 20,000 inhabitants has undergone substantial yet controlled growth in the last 10 years.
