WING SHOOTING: Argentina - Esquina

Duck Hunting

_DSC6094Argentina duck hunting is the ultimate in water fowling.  The only questions are where and with what outfitter.  By choosing Fly Fishing Patagonia, you get an outfitter with 10 years experience in Argentina in an area that resembles the Mississippi Delta and the Florida Everglades; it’s natural duck factory and impervious to drought.

The town of Esquina is located where the Corriente River and the major Paraná River meet.  Our Argentina duck hunts mainly take place on the Parana River and the huge natural delta it creates.  The delta resembles a huge river and a braided wetland at the same time.  There are no flooded corn or rice fields here, just natural water channels and ponds plus islands of forests, grasses, or floating vegetation.  It’s a 100% pristine, un-baited duck habitat supporting literally millions of migratory and resident birds.

TrophyquestducksThis system also supports many rare species such as the Marsh Deer, the capybara, the Neotropical River Otter, the Pampas Cat, the jaguar, black caiman, and millions of exotic birds.

We have 6,000 acres of this wild life mecca for our exclusive use and have many blinds scattered throughout the area.  Argentina Duck hunting on the delta has been so good, that sometimes we don’t use blinds or decoys.  We just crouch behind a bush or simply kneel down. You have to see it to believe it!

To give our delta ducks a rest, we also duck hunt lagoons located on our ranches private property.  Hunters sit on stools in natural blinds and shoot over decoys.  These lagoons attract a great numbers of Whistling Ducks such as Siriri de la pampa, or Whitefaced Whistling Ducks, which are the most weary of all our South American ducks.

P5280333From May 1- August 31, our duck hunters will see hundreds of ducks every morning and possibly bag 10 different species.  They will also have the opportunity for an Argentina mixed-bag wing shooting experience with dove and pigeon hunts and hunting the upland game of Argentina, the Perdiz.

There are roughly 25 species of ducks that migrate through our area, however the most common are the Rosy-Billed Pochard (Neta peposaca), Brazilian Teal (Amazonetta brasiliensis), Silver Teal (Anas flavirostris), Speckled Teal (Anas flavirostris), White-faced Whistling Duck, (Dendrocygna viduata), Black-Bellied Tree Duck, (Dendrocygna autumnalis), Fulvous Whistling Duck (Dendrocygna bicolor), White Cheeked Pintail (Anas bahamensis), Red Shoveler (Anas platalea), Black-headed duck (Heteronetta atricapilla), and the Ringed Teal (Callonetta leucophrys)
